Why this one

  • Duty and import VAT countedFreight, the duty for your commodity code, 20% import VAT and your carrier's handling fee go on top of the supplier's price. In the worked example a £4.00 unit lands at £6.45.
  • Every fee, channel by channelOne price on Shopify, Amazon FBA, Etsy and your own site, every fee on its own line. At £19.99 the example leaves £7.89, £5.12 and £5.48.
  • Two tests, not oneAt least 3x landed cost and at least £8 profit a unit, and the tab shows the lowest price that clears the floor.
  • No sample, no orderTen suppliers on the seven questions, with green and red flags. A supplier that will not sample, or cannot prep for Amazon, ranks last whatever the price.
  • Compliance before you buyPick your category and the duties that apply light up, from GPSR and CE or UKCA marking to toys, electrical, cosmetics and more, with an EORI reminder.

How it works

  • Set your ratesOn the Settings tab: VAT registered or not, the duty rate for your commodity code, your carrier's handling fee
  • Score, then land the costOn Product scorer, clear the examples, score four or more candidates and mark one Chosen. Type its quote on Landed cost and a price on Margin by channel
  • Compare, sample, orderOn Supplier comparison, three suppliers and the seven questions. The Dashboard fills in

Who it is for

Anyone in the UK choosing a first physical product to sell online, as a side hustle next to a job or as your main income. Landed cost means what one unit really costs once it reaches your door: the supplier's price plus freight, import duty and import VAT. It does not pick the product or write your supplier messages: it is the numbers, the questions and the checks. Most small sellers are not VAT registered. If you are, there is one switch for it on Settings.

Questions

Do I need Microsoft Excel?

No. It comes with a Google Sheets version, which is free with a Google account. The Excel file also opens in the free web version of Excel.

How do I get it?

Straight after payment it is in your library on this site: the Excel file, the PDF guide and the Open me first page with the Google Sheets button.

Will it tell me which product to sell?

No. It scores your own ideas on seven criteria out of 35 and five signals, so every candidate is judged the same way and you choose with the numbers in front of you.

Is the duty rate built in?

You type the duty rate for your commodity code on the Settings tab. The worked example uses 3% as an illustration, not a rate for any product. The fees and rates sit in white cells there, so you can update them when they change.

Is this tax or customs advice?

No. These are estimates to help you decide, and nothing here is a promise about sales or income. HMRC, the platforms and carriers change their rates, so check the live page before you act.
