Why this one

  • UK bills built inCouncil tax over 10 or 12 instalments, a ready UK bill list, and yearly or four-weekly bills that land in the month they are paid, so the expensive months show up before they arrive.
  • An energy checkType the kWh from your annual statement and it works out a year at the Ofgem price cap rates, against your direct debit.
  • ISA room left, person by personIt adds what each of you has paid in to the payments still to come this tax year and shows the room left in the £20,000 allowance, with the Lifetime ISA bonus.
  • Pension relief you can seePay £80 by relief at source and see the £100 that goes in, checked against the annual allowance.
  • Every rate is a cellThe allowances and the price cap sit on Settings, so the planner carries on into the next tax year when you type the new figures.

How it works

  • Set up the yearOn Settings, tax year or calendar year, your council tax, your energy use and a budget for each kind of everyday spending
  • List income and bills onceEach pay on Income and each bill on Bills and direct debits, with how often it comes
  • Log spending and set up your potsThe Dashboard and Monthly budget fill in by themselves

Who it is for

UK households, couples and single earners who want the whole year planned in pounds, with the bills and allowances that apply here. An ISA is a savings account where the interest or growth is tax free, up to a yearly allowance. Relief at source means your pension provider adds the basic rate tax back to what you pay in.

Questions

Do I need Microsoft Excel?

No. It comes with a Google Sheets version, which is free with a Google account. The Excel file also opens in the free web version of Excel.

How do I get it?

Straight after payment it is in your library on this site: the Excel file, the PDF guide and the Open me first page with the Google Sheets button.

Can two of us use it?

Yes. Each savings pot names whose it is, and the ISA allowance left is worked out for each of you.

What happens when rates change?

The ISA allowance, pension figures, TV licence and energy price cap are cells on Settings. Type the new figure and every tab follows.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is a planning tool to help you budget, and figures are estimates. There is no promise of savings, and every person and amount in the examples is made up.
