My Story

How I got here

Over the last decade, I built a career across academia, research, and industry: earning a PhD and working in professional roles across the UK and internationally.

I learned to understand systems, design strategy, and solve complex problems. But like most professionals, I was building someone else's future, not my own.

I followed the expected path: work hard, earn a steady salary, trust that one career would be enough. For a long time, it felt like the smart, responsible thing to do.

Why I stopped relying on one income

In 2024, the environment around my role changed in ways I hadn't anticipated. A new dynamic on my team made things increasingly difficult, undue pressure, blocked opportunities, and a performance process that felt more political than fair.

I'm not sharing this for sympathy. I'm sharing it because it revealed something I'd quietly assumed away for years: no matter how hard you work, how qualified you are, or how much you contribute, your career can be derailed by circumstances entirely outside your control.

One person, one bad dynamic, one political decision can put everything you've built at risk.

That realisation was uncomfortable. But it was also clarifying. If my financial security depended on one employer, one salary, one person's opinion of me, then I wasn't as secure as I'd thought.

The solution wasn't to find a better boss. It was to stop being so dependent on any single source of income in the first place.

How I built a £500k business, without quitting first

I gave myself the rest of 2024 to learn the foundations and put the legal and operational pieces in place. In March 2025, I launched the first product of a direct-to-consumer kitchen brand, a focused product line with a real point of difference.

I had no prior business experience beyond being a customer. No connections, no blueprint, no guarantee it would work. What I had was the same disciplined thinking that had served me through academia and industry, applied, this time, to something I owned.

By August 2025, the business was strong enough to stand on its own. I left my £60k job, not out of desperation, but by design. In the 12 months after launch, the business grew to £500k in revenue.

That sequence matters more than the number.

I lived that order. Today it's the framework I share with every professional I work with.

What I teach today

I help employed professionals do what I did: build parallel income alongside their careers, practically, deliberately, and without unnecessary risk.

I write every Monday across five areas: parallel income, e-commerce, monetising your skills, career reality and leverage, and the thinking and decision-making that makes it all sustainable.

My goal is simple: Help professionals create parallel income so work becomes a choice, not a trap.

When I'm not working, I'm with my family, and increasingly, that's the part of my life I'm learning to protect. I didn't build any of this so I could work harder. I built it so I could choose what I gave my best hours to, and who I gave them with. That's the real freedom. Not the number. The choice.

There's one thing I haven't done yet, and I think about it more than I admit: a proper winter mountain crossing. Snow, altitude, days of moving slowly through cold. It scares me, which is probably why it's still on the list. But the same rule applies up there as down here.
